Modernizing Cross-Border Shipment Clearance
Reduced Border Congestion
Automated pre-clearance ensures shipments are ready for interchange, preventing delays and reducing border congestion.
Minimized Delay Fees
Proactive flagging and customer notification regarding missing documentation minimizes potential delay charges.
Future Scalability
The modernized Pega system allows for future expansion of customs pre-clearance automation beyond US-Mexico shipments.
CHALLENGE
The client faced the challenge of deprecating a 20-year-old legacy system (Despacho Previo) and integrating its functionality into the organization's standardized systems.
This modernization was crucial to prevent border congestion and potential fees associated with delayed shipment clearance during the post-merger technology transformation.
SOLUTION
Bits in Glass developed a Pega application to manage the DP process. An integration layer was built using Boomi to connect the Pega DP system with other organizational systems.
The solution automates key DP processes, including flagging shipments with missing documentation, notifying customers, applying delay charges, and releasing shipments upon completion of required actions.
